Ashani Waidyatillake

Ashani Waidyatillake is 14 years old. Each year she has achieved great success in competitions throughout New Zealand. Over the past three years, her major accolades include: winning the New Zealand Youth Piano Competition, enabling her to play a duet with Lang Lang; first prize at the biennial Wallace National Junior Piano Competition; her debut concerto performance with Bach Musica; and participating in the Curtis Institute of Music Summerfest, as a full scholarship recipient. In 2019, Ashani was invited as a guest performer to the International Akaroa Music Festival, and in the same month, participated in the NZ International Young Artists Festival. In August, Ashani will attend the Semaine International de Piano et Music de Chambre Blonay Festival in Switzerland, on a full scholarship.

Ashani has featured in many newspaper and radio articles. As well as being a solo performer, she enjoys chamber music and is the pianist in Trio Espoir which won the 2018 Auckland District Round of the New Zealand Secondary Schools Chamber Contest. At the subsequent finals, held in Christchurch, they were awarded the Joan Kerr Gold Award. In addition to her piano studies, Ashani is also an accomplished violinist.
