Phoebe DengPhoebe (Modi) Deng recently completed a Bachelor of Music with Honours with Stephen De Pledge and Rae de Lisle, and a Bachelor of English at Auckland University. In March 2018, she received first prize in the National Concerto Competition, performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with Benjamin Northey and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
As the 2016 and 2018 Haydn Staples Piano Scholar, Phoebe has performed concertos by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Rachmaninov and Clara Schumann with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, and collegiate orchestras.
Phoebe’s trio toured the UK in July 2018 as the winner of the Pettman/ROSL Arts Chamber Music Arts scholarship. They performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and at St Martin-in-the-Fields. Her trio also received the 2018 Auckland Chamber Music Society Prize. Phoebe has received a full Marsden Research grant for her Masters, and a scholarship towards the Oxford Piano Festival in July this year.
