Sam Lucas

Age: 23 born Kippa-Ring / lives Du?sseldorf

Sam is currently studying his bachelor degree with Pieter Wispelwey at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Du?sseldorf. In 2011 Sam won the 1st prize in the Australian Concerto Competition at the age of 15. In 2013, he was a prize winner in the Australian National Youth Concerto Competition, where he played the Dvor?a?k Concerto with the Queensland Youth Symphony. In 2014 and 2015 Sam took 3rd place in the Gisborne International Music Competition and won the Royal Over-Seas League Chamber Competition. In 2016, Sam won the National Concerto Competition in New Zealand with Bloch's Schelomo, with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. He then debuted at Wigmore Hall in London. In 2017, Sam received 4th prize in the Rubinstein International Cello Competition and 6th prize in the Brahms Cello Competition. He appeared as soloist with the University of Bonn Symphony Orchestra and in 2018 received 1st Prize in the Sieghardt-Rometsch Competition in Du?esseldorf. In November 2018, Sam made his debut in the Du?sseldorf Tonhalle and in the Wuppertal Stadthalle with the Robert Schumann University Symphony Orchestra, playing the Elgar Cello Concerto. In 2019, Sam was awarded Gold Medal in the Vienna International Music Competition and 1st prize in the Pro Artists International Music Competition – Winter Edition.
